Dracaena colorama/Dragon Tree

This East African import has wowed hearts, both indoors and outdoors. Indeed, its stiff, spiky leaves with streaks of pink and red make quite a landscape/plantscape feature. These sword-like leaves aren’t pet-friendly though.

While it is an easy to maintain plant, the dragon tree is known to grow slow. In a way, it is a good thing, as it means it can remain potted indoor for a longer time! Its ease of maintenance derives from the fact that it is very water-efficient.

Interestingly, the word Dracaena (dra-see-na) has been derived from the Greek word ‘drakaina’ which translates into ‘female dragon.’
