Hibiscus Flower Plant
A beautiful glabrous shrub with large green leaves and bright red, pink, yellow or beige-coloured blooms - Hibiscus is an eye-catching beauty. Its red-flower version is the most traditional one, compulsorily found in almost all gardens - new or old. Considered a favourite of Lord Ganpati and Lord Hanuman, Hibiscus has a special place in the Hindu household.
And tell you what? You can brew its petals for tea or crush them into a paste as medicine for healthy hair - Hibiscus has tremendous medicinal properties as well.
Ah, but the life-sucking mealy bugs love your Hibiscus, so keep an eye out for these powdery-white pests. Hibiscus needs the sun and will need a wide and deep pot to ensure it grows to its majestic best.
When we say Hibiscus, we mean Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. A number of other Hibiscus species and horticultural varieties exist. For example Double-petal hibiscus, mini hibiscus, variegated-petal hibiscus etc.
