MARIGOLD

The marigold is an annual flower that blooms for such a long time that it has become a gardener's favorite. They feature huge yellow, gold, and orange flowers that are totally double. T. patula (French marigolds) are bushier, more compact, and have smaller blooms.

Care tips

  • Planted in early spring.

  • Requires full sunlight.

  • Requires light staking for support.

  • Quick germination by seeds and come in blooming in about 8 weeks.

  • Deheading encourages appearance and healthy growth.

  • Well-drained and moderately fertile soil is required.

  • Do not require fertilizer but in extreme cases fertilize with irrigation water.

  • Watering at the base of the plant, avoid watering on the flowers or foliage.

  • Susceptible to many sucking pests, spraying of organic pesticides should be done.

  • Adaptable to different types of soil conditions.
  • Deep, fertile, friable soil having good water holding capacity
  • The ideal soil for marigold cultivation is fertile and sandy loam, well-drained, and nearer to neutral pH (7.0 – 7.5)
  • Stored in a pot
