PILEA - CHINESE MONEY PLANT

Chinese money plants are compact and well-suited to container culture. They reach a maximum height of 8-12 inches (20-30 cm.). Green vegetative shoots develop up and out from the crown, each ending in a single saucer-shaped leaf that can grow to be 4 inches in diameter (10 cm.)

Care tips

  • Keep the Chinese Money Plant in bright, indirect light. • Keep the soil mildly damp but not soggy by not allowing it to sit in water. During the cooler months, you can also allow the soil dry up a little between waterings.
  • Normal room humidity is good, but if the edges of your leaves are crisp or 'burning,' you should increase the humidity.
  • The Chinese Money Plant does not thrive in temperatures below 10°C; the ideal range is 13°C to 30°C; make sure the temperature does not fluctuate too much.
  • Use well-draining all-purpose soil to keep the plant from becoming too damp after watering.
  • In spring and summer, feed the plant once a month. When the mother plant is generating baby plants, you should also feed the plant. The Chinese Money Plant is completely non-toxic.
  • The easiest way to develop baby plants is in the soil adjacent to the mother plant; after they reach a size of roughly 5-7cm, you can remove their link to the mother plant. To achieve this, use a sharp, clean knife and be sure to cut the plant beneath the dirt so you can keep the baby plant's roots. Simply re-pot these in damp soil in a new pot.
  • Remove any young plants that are growing on the main stem of your mother plant with a clean, sharp knife. After that, place the tiny plant in a glass of clean water and wait for it to grow its own root system. Once the roots have formed, plant them in damp soil.

  • The Chinese Money Plant a popular home plant, owes to its low maintenance requirements as well as the benefits it offers in terms of air purification, propagation, and symbolism.
